BSIF Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups

The BSIF runs several Special Interest Groups, providing members with an opportunity to be involved with discussions related to the Safety & Health Market and to help to influence the direction of Standards that relate to the market. All members of these “SIGs” can be nominated to join Bsi committees as a BSIF representative to help develop, draft, and review Standards related to PPE and Safety products and services.

 

 

Test & Certification Group

A group specifically for those organisations who are involved with the assessment, testing and certification of PPE and Safety Products. This group is open to all UK based Approved Bodies, Notified Bodies from the EU that also have representation in the UK and any organisation that has a UK accredited test facility approved to BS EN ISO 17025.

PPE Focused Groups

  • Eye, Face, Head & Hearing Protection
  • Respiratory Protective Devices
  • Protective Glove & Clothing
  • Safety Footwear
  • Electrical Hazards

These groups are focused on specific areas of PPE (there is naturally some crossover within these groups) and focus on the standards that relate to the specific areas of protection these products provide.

Other Groups

  • Height Safety Group – covering both ‘built’ elements of fixed systems and the PPE that can be used in conjunction with or instead of these systems. More details are available on the Height Safety Group website – [LINK to HSG website]
  • Spill Containment & Hazard Control. Dealing with environmental protection measures, such as spill control and containment, hazardous materials storage, and control. Through this group BSIF developed the accreditation for those who deliver courses in “First Responders to Liquid Spills” [LINK].
  • Measurement & Instrumentation. Covering diverse subject matter, such as hazardous Gas and Dust monitoring systems and equipment and Hand/Arm Vibration monitoring and control. This group has been responsible for developing guidance such as “Bump it plus” [LINK] and “Bad Vibrations” [Link]

 

These SIGs are a key point of engagement for our members and through the various working groups that are part of them, produce easy to use and understand guidance that help those responsible for workers safety to protect their people.
