The HSE statistics have just been published and in line with current focus “Health” is a priority within the report.
However, we can see that non – fatal injuries have shown a slight increase on the previous year to 621,000. These injuries resulted in 152,000 absences of over seven days and 469,000 absences of up to seven days.
Conversely we see that there is a welcome reduction of injuries reported under RIDDOR.
The BSIF has always been very clear in our messaging that good safety and health is good for business and the individual. That message should be crystal clear to all, but we are somewhat alarmed to note on the report that there has been an 11% increase in working days lost to industry. The report records that over 30 million days were lost due to work related illness and non – fatal workplace injuries.
